Park power fun time

New Orleans goodness

I've been discovering and enjoying New Orleans lately. There's some good stuff going on here. Here's a picture Justin took of Elio and Mose sliding together.

And here's a picture Justin took of Elio in the swing.

Prospect.1 New Orleans is going on right now, and it's amazing. It's the largest biennial of international art ever organized in the U.S., and there are exhibits all over the city. We've only just begun to explore all the stuff there is to see, but so far, it's been really neat. We went with Justin and Edie and Mose and Mose's grandpa to see a bunch of stuff in the Lower Ninth Ward, which was pretty much decimated by Katrina. It was really amazing to see the way the art pieces were integrated into the landscape. And Elio and Mose had a grand old time running around. Here they are, in a picture Justin took. That fabulous house you can see in the background? One of the Brad Pitt/Make It Right foundation homes that are being built.

We went back this weekend with Dan's sister, Kris, to look again.

Check out the groovy outfit!

Elio's been spoiled with ice cream. Here he is with his game face on and two spoons.

Enjoying a totally yummy po-boy at the Po-boy festival.

Oh, happy day!

I wish I had pictures of us celebrating Tuesday night... but these will have to suffice to capture our happiness with President-Elect Obama! Here's Dan bringing Elio out of the voting booth:

It's not the best picture ever, but here's a picture of my voting screen, and, if you look close, you can see the little green "x" lit up by Barack Obama's name. I was so giddy about casting my vote -- I wanted to have a bunch of people in the voting booth with me, all of us happy and laughing and joyful. But you go into that voting booth alone, and I had a quiet moment of feeling proud and hopeful all by myself. And then I exited the booth and Dan and I told Elio about what a great thing was going to happen to our country that day. I'm so glad that his first conscious memories of the U.S. President are going to be of Obama!

(Also, isn't it cute that the Louisiana ballot has the little donkey and elephant pictures on it?)

Halloween!

We were so delighted with our Halloween costumes -- Elio was Joe Biden, his buddy Mose was Obama, and Justin, Edie, Dan and I were secret service agents. Justin has blogged about the evening much more charmingly that I can, and we've even gotten placement on a fun Barack Obama blog -- yes, we can (hold babies), which is super fun.

Elio and Mose took their roles seriously: here they are studying up by watching the Obama infomercial a few days before Halloween.

The candidates get ready.

Ah. Cuteness.

This is the little curl that means that Elio needs a haircut, but I'm not sure how to get him to sit still long enough to make wielding scissors near his head safe.
